The Right Keyword Research Is Money In The Bank

[ 0 ] January 27, 2012 |

The keyword choices you make are extremely essential in practically any online business model. Whether you’re interested in PPC, blogging, virtual real estate, Adsense sites, or whatever your Internet marketing business may be, the keywords you use can make or break your success.

There are several reasons why keywords are so extremely important. One of the most important reasons is traffic. If you choose keywords to target a market that are all wrong, your traffic probably won’t be as much as it could be. It doesn’t matter if you’re using pay per click or if you’re using search engines to get your traffic, your keywords are going to affect your ranking and link performance no matter what you use.

Keywords are also important because you need targeted traffic. You may have a thousand people visit your domain with the keyword “cajun recipes”, but it’s going to be worthless if you’re selling “Weber grills” and that’s not what they’re interested in.

People who search for the keyword “grills” are probably only browsing. They may might not even be interested in a Weber grill at all – they may instead be interested in a Coleman grill or how to grill food.

However, a person who is searching for “Weber Grills” is probably interested in buying this particular brand right then and there. So it really isn’t enough just to get a ton of traffic directed to your site – you want traffic that’s willing to take the action you want them to take.

Whether you’re interested in selling e-books, promoting affiliate products, getting leads for a CPA offer, or just getting people to sign-up to your list, you want targeted visitors who will likely be a buyer now or in the future.

Once you have a niche in mind, you need to research the keywords for that niche that you’ll want to use. If you’re going to write articles or reviews, you’ll want to choose keywords to use in both the titles and the text.

If you’re building websites based on your niche, you’ll want to use the keywords in the domain name. If you’re planning to buy PPC traffic, the keywords you choose can actually be one of the biggest factors in determining whether your campaign is profitable or not.

A really excellent tool for researching keywords is WordTracker. And while there is a paid membership to use this tool, they do have a very good free keyword tool at: http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com.

Google also has a free keyword tool: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal.

The first thing you’ll want to do is enter a base keyword for your niche. For example, if you’re planning to target the grills niche. You might enter “grills” into the keyword tool of your choosing. The keyword tool when then show you a number of related choices for that particular keyword.

You might find “barbeque grills”, “outdoor grills” and “Weber grills.” This would be considered a short list of more broad terms. You’ll then drill down these keywords for even more related keywords. However, you’ll need to generate a long list of keywords that can be used over the next several months or even years, so you want to consider them all.

This is not a process that you want to take lightly. It can make or break you business. Keyword research is how you will get in front of your market, and more importantly, how you will get in front of potential buyers.
